Lethbridge Pride Fest & Trap\door Artist Run Centre

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Deadline: January 15, 2018

Lethbridge Pride Fest Society and Trap\door Artist Run Centre are accepting proposals for a commissioned work comprised of 6 components, each crafted by a different artist. We are inviting artists to submit proposals for a part of a large, portable "Hollywood-style" sign that will consist of five 6-foot tall letters (P R I D E) preceded by a heart. Each letter will also be themed to correspond with the colours of the pride flag: red heart, orange P, yellow R, green I, blue D, and purple E. This work will be featured at Lethbridge Pride Fest events throughout the upcoming year and potentially beyond; the work may also be reproduced and used on Pride festival merchandise and promotional material.

We encourage LGBTTQQIAPA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirit, queer, questioning, intersexed, asexual, pansexual and ally) artists to submit. Successful proposals will illustrate how the artist intends to transform one of these two-dimensional wooden characters into a personal celebration of Pride. Please note that because the work will be displayed outdoors, you should plan to work with materials that can withstand inclement weather. The wooden characters will be provided by Lethbridge Pride Fest Society. Given the scale of the work, there may be studio space available for the construction of your work; your proposal should indicate if you require a studio.

Submissions should include:
- A written proposal for your project, maximum one page, including your preference for one of the 6 characters (if you have one) and justification for your choice as well as your contact information.
- A maximum of 10 images of past work - CV
- Artist bio (maximum 200 words)
Proposals will be selected by a jury of members from Lethbridge Pride Fest Society and Trap/door Artist Run Centre. Selected artists will receive a fee of $600 and a $100 stipend for materials. While we can accept proposals from all interested artists, please note that because of the scale of the work, it may not be feasible to consider proposals from outside the Southern Alberta area.
